7/20/09 - From the New York Observer: Wednesday: Michael and Michael Have Issues
Calling Michael and Michael Have Issues the funniest show of the summer feels like damning with faint praise—after all, there really isn’t that much in the way of laughs on TV right now (NYC Prep doesn't count). But don’t let the lack of competition fool you: The Comedy Central series is legitimately great. Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter—refugees from Stella and, before that, The State—play versions of themselves, and they infuse their characters with such contempt that the series rises above its tired, “show-within-a-show” conceit. We promise: You will laugh, and laugh hard. [Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m.]

Michael Ian Black, author of My Custom Van: And 50 other mind-Blowing Essays that will Blow Your Mind All Over Your Face is endorsed by Amy Sedaris ("Enjoy the ride of your lifetime") but is gunning for her brother David. Since Black realized that his book is currently higher ranked on Amazon.com than David Sedaris's 1994 book Barrel Fever, Black's begun a "desperate bid to dismantle that mo-fo David Sedaris's lock on all things 'best-selling,'" Most importantly he wonders "Why does David Sedaris hate America?" (Sedaris lives in France)
In Black's laugh-out-loud collection of short comic essays from Simon Spotlight Entertainment
(which includes an introduction from Abraham Lincoln) he throws down
the gauntlet with the essay 'Hey David Sedaris - Why Don't You Just Go
Ahead and Suck It?' He now continues the fued online with several
Sedaris blogs at the moment including
Some Ways to Casually Put Down David Sedaris at Your Next Social Event Without Looking Like a Total Jerk which includes this gem:
Say, for example, you are at league bowling night and your buddy finds himself facing an easy pick-up for a spare. Just before he bowls say something like, "Don't miss, Bob, or you might hear David Sedaris telling a long and humorous story about what a boob you are on 'This American Life.'"
I wonder if Black noticed that customers on Amazon that bought My Custom Van also bought Sedaris' When You Are Engulfed in Flames but not the other way around?
6/11/08 - Esquire had this little blurb in their "Hall of Cultural Significance:
"SURPRISINGLY AGILE WRITER
Michael Ian Black, in his new book, My Custom Van: And 50 Other Mind-Blowing Essays that Will Blow Your Mind All Over Your Face. Yeah, the title's a rocky start, but VH1's resident talking head redeems himself with the essay "What I Would Be Thinking If I Were Billy Joel Driving to a Holiday Party Where I Knew There Was Going to Be a Piano."
I don't know why they had to throw in a dig at the title, which is purposefully awkward, not rocky, but I'm not going to look the proverbial gift horse in the proverbial mouth. And I'm going to stop saying "proverbial."
5/3/08 - Wow. New article about my high school band in Jersey Beat magazine.
4/20/08 - Somewhat serious interview for Pop Rock Candy Mountain.
4/9/08 - Another good review for "Run Fatboy Run," this one from the Times Herald .
3/28/08 - New York Times review of "Run Fatboy Run."
3/26/08 - Stumbled across this post which I thought was right on the money about a lot of things. I'm barely mentioned, which is a fucking sham, but otherwise the post was very good.
3/26/08 - I had to post this review because it's so very confusing. You have to read the whole thing to understand why.
3/25/08 - Washington Post interview about "Run Fatboy Run."

11/11/07 - A long radio interview I did for The Bob Edwards Show. Unfortunately, he just kind of prompted me to do material, which I didn't really want to do. Even so, for people unfamiliar with me, it's probably a decent introduction to my style.
12/04 - Just found this old article from Blender. I stayed with the author and her husband in LA the last time I was out there. He has a pogo stick company, and they have a drum set in their guest room.

10/29/07 - I don't know what this means, but I guess it's nice.
10/25/07 - Interview with Palm Beach Post

10/17/07 - Nice but kind of inaccurate college newspaper article at Pace Press
10/12/07 - Mixed review of our Denver show at The Denver Post. Showalter's set is called "slightly drunken," which I found funny.
10/12/07 - Interview where college student gets mad at me for not opening up to him at The Daily Trojan. When I open up, it's going to be either to Barbara Walters or Bill O'Reilly. One of the two.
10/09/07 - Adam Carolla calling me gay on The Adam Carolla Show
10/08/07 - Interview with Denver paper Westword in which I am called a "superhero."
10/04/07 - Relatively sincere interview with The Denver Post
10/02/07 - Me and the Daily News just kind of chatting. I feel like his transcription wasn't the best, since he obviously dropped words here and there, but if you want to eavesdrop on a chat between me and New York's hometown newspaper, click here.
9/25/07 - On the "Bob and Shari" radio show. Listen here.
9/17/07 - Positive review of my album at Monsters and Critic
